Alien Gear:Cloak Mod OWB Paddle Holster

| June 18, 2016 | 1 Comments

Alien Gear has again made me rethink my strategy about holsters. A few years back I made a commitment to never use kydex like material for a holster. This was probably most due to my attempt to limit my spend on new holsters, having a box of holsters I have aquired over the years I had decided nothing is better than the great feel and comfort of leather. Well last year Alien Gear with their versatility and comfort totally changed my perception and thinking as can be seen here in this review. Later in the same year they improved upon their design with the Cloak Tuck 3, I have been wearing an IWB Alien Gear almost every day for past year. My second rule of thumb was never to wear an OWB holster. Early this year when Alien Gear released their Cloak Mod OWB Paddle Holster

And contacted me about a review I did not reply right away due to low interest on my behalf. My integrity is of the up most importance and not being able to give a product the proper review felt wrong to me. Later that night the wife and I was talking about finding her a holster to wear off duty and she was looking for something that was OWB. She was looking for something more concealable than her duty holster, but gave the same feel. I told her about the Alien Gear proposition and she said get one and I will wear it with my backup pistol, which is a Glock 30 and tell you what I think about it.

Alien Gear has applied their IWB innovations to the the Cloak Mod Paddle Holster.

  • Swappable Shells
  • Additional Tools and Spacers
  • Great Instructions
  • Nice Packaging
  • Stainless Steel Spring
  • Adjustable cant and angle

Iron clad warranty offered by Alien Gear.

  • 30 days money back no questions asked
  • Lifetime warranty? if anything ever breaks for any reason including the clips
  • Free shell trades for life, if you get a new gun we will trade your shell to match the new gun as long as you own the holster.

With the Cloak Mod Paddle Alien Gear introduced two new innovations to differentiate themselves from being just another OWB holster. I really like the?thermo elastomer retention membrane, a durable material that rests between your gun and the steel flex plate. When holstering your firearm, this membrane which feels mostly like rubber snaps the pistol in snug and secure against the kydex material. The flared opening also makes sure that the pistol remains pointed in a safe direction when holstering. My most favorite new feature is the ability to swap the Alien Gear paddle for a belt loop to transform the holster to a belt side holster. My wife prefers the paddle of which she says is very comfortable I personally prefer the belt loop.

Also important to me is the fact that Alien Gear Holsters continue to be fully produced and assembled in America for very reasonable prices.

My wife has been wearing this holster for a few months now and is very fond of it, hence the reason it has taken me a while to get this review published. My wife is known to be no nonsense and a tough grader when it comes to her profession. Though I knew she liked the holster when she saw me changing it over to the belt loop and mentioned don’t screw up my holster with your love handles. When asking her about her thoughts she broke it all down into a few categories with star ratings,

Versatility — 5 out of 5 Stars
Comfort — 5 out of 5 Stars
Concealment — 3 out of 5 Stars
Her thoughts here was, with the paddle holster it sticks out a little but nothing a loose fitting shirt or blouse in her language wouldn’t solve. Though she did say the concealability is much better than her duty OWB holster.
Secure — 3 out of 5 Stars
Mrs.LEO45 Secure score comes from her carrying a class 3 holster everyday, which requires 3 actions to remove the pistol from the holster.
Speed — 5 out of 5 Stars
Though Mrs.LEO45 gave a middle of the road score for security, she never worried about her pistol leaving the holster without her engagement. For a level0 holster it definitely has greater access which increases speed.
Overall — 4 out of 5 Stars
Mrs.LEO45 likes the holster enough that she has claimed it for her own. I personally would have given it 5 out of 5 stars for the comfort, versatility and price but we all know a happy wife is a happy life.

What is the screw spacing on the paddle or belt loops for the holster? I couldn’t get a straight answer from Alien Gear. I would like to get the OWB holster and use a tek-lok from blade-tech for attachment. The holes on the tek-lok are on 1/2 inch centers.
