Despite all the different guns I’ve shot in my life, I have virtually no experience with 22LR…AND THEN YOU HAD TO COME UP WITH THIS IDEA! So you MADE me invest in a 22lr gun and ammo with this contest! LOL

A couple of weeks ago, I sold all of my left-over (benchrest) target ammo that I haven’t used for matches for over 10 years. I also sold my target rifles, so won’t be entering this endeavor, but wish all of you the best of luck/skill.

@ CharlieBS’er–Im surprised you haven’t already knocked them all off–I know if I can get 4 of them than a real shooter with experience should get them no problem. And lucky for you I’ve had numerous setbacks which keep me from getting back 100%. LOL
@stagpanther……It’s a lucky day when all goes well for me, I am no pro by a long shot.
But…I certainly enjoy a good challenge and some crafty gamesmanship thrown in on the side.

On TRN (The Reloaders Network.com / discord channel)we have a Life Savers Challenge…glue 10 life savers to a card and use one shot each and try to get one shot or more through the center without breaking the life saver. The hole is .285″ so you can see that a fella needs a lucky day to get’er done.

I went through 2 bags of life savers to get lucky enough on this one.
Lemmee see Charlie, that would mean ten shots would have to be within roughly .062″ of dead center to not hit the lifesaver? Good day indeed. I don’t know why–but my shootings dropped off in accuracy; I can only get a few of the top row on about 1 out of eight tries, and haven’t been able to repeat a 4 hit. I thought I was gonna get all 5 any day now.
stagpanther, I wonder if you are having action screw problems, they have become loose? Another thought is that unit on the muzzle, is that a can? Are you having a carbon build-up and getting suppressor strikes? Perhaps it’s time to run one wet patch through the bore and dry it and go again? Hard to say but my money would be on getting that bench shored up a bit.
The .22lr BR is a finicky woman at best…your always having to keep track, I even keep track of my round count in the barrel as accuracy will drop off after 300 rounds so I clean it moderately every 250 shots or so.
You need to work it out soon or leave me lonely at the top…I cleaned that top row on the 16’th, have no idea why Eli hasn’t posted it yet, said he would this past weekend. I hope he is not having problems of some sort.

Charlie CONGRATS! Not only did you sweep the top row–you did it within the prescribed time. That is stupendous shooting! While I think I could eventually get the top row (provided my ammo and barrel hold out)–I don’t think I have the skill to shoot them all that fast. You da man! ; )
That’s just a standard muzzle brake that I put on–partly cause it looks cool–and partly to mitigate the recoil which hits harder than a 416 Weatherby Magnum. LOL

I didn’t think it fast, in fact I wasn’t sure I could make the time limit since I single feed this rifle…’slow & steady is fast’ if you get my meaning.

Start your timer and forget it, don’t race the timer…make each shot deliberate & when your done, that’s your time. Who gives a dang about time, it is accuracy that gets the job done.

Any suggestions on ammo for the Christianson arms Ranger. And choice’s about the trigger. What is your opinion on the best 22lr production gun to shoot target’s off the bench at 50 yards.
Good cost effective ammo that has shot well for me is SK Rifle Match and SK Plus ammo. As it pertains triggers, I am very familiar with TriggerTech and they offer a direct replacement. Easy to install and offers a great improvement over the standard trigger. Though the standard trigger is not bad.

Going to try the Know Your Skills Challenge next time out at the range. Since I shoot peep sights, this is going to be challenging going scoped. Perhaps I could simply cut out the KYS targets and place on larger round targets? May try both scoped and peep just for fun.

I am a subscriber and I saw recently you aquired a 40X. I too, am lucky enough to have found one, U.S. 1965 vintage. I recently started testing ammo. Eley 10x gave very good results with two different lots. Each lot gave me one of 4 groups in the high ones ( .199 / .189) with both lots averaging in the 3s ( 4 – 5 shot groups @ 50 yds.). Eley Match also averaged in the 3s. I couldn’t bare to shoot my last box of Federal UM1, lol. So much history built into a 40X, especially any with a U.S. marking. Thank you Mike Walker. Just saw the 40X “Flexing” on the range with Eley 10X, very nice Elijah. One thing I did forget to mention in my first post, and I learned this from a benchrest gunsmith, Remington 700s – 40X and most clones don’t particularly like even torque on the action screws. I mean like front 40″ pounds, rear 40″ pounds. The front action screw goes into much thicker supporting metal and the rear, not so much. He suggested on wood to use 35″ pounds on the front and 30″ on the rear. Pillar bedded add 10″ pounds to each. On pillar bedded composites add 5″ pounds to each. Over the years this has proven reliable for me.
Really nice seeing the old girl doing what it was made to do. Glad you had a good experience with her and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of the 40x.
