45Colt Hornady LeverEvolution to the Extreme

| September 13, 2019 | 2 Comments

Here I test the Hornady Leverevolution 225gr in clear ballistics gelatin and across the chronograph. I will take it from one extreme to the other, snub nose short barrel to 16in carbine length barrel.

I know alot of people are all concerned with the expansion of handgun and muzzleloading bullets.
The truth is there, is ot really need for expansion on 45 or 50 caliber bullets.
Think about it. The expansion goal that is looked for in 30 caliber hunting bullets is to reach 45 to 50 Caliber. That is where you are starting.
Yes, for home defense you want expansion to control over penetration.
In your test, your handgun round penetrated roughly 9 to 10 inches. 10 to 14 inches is considered ideal. So again even with minimal to no expansion (it was hard to see on the video) the round/gun performance was ideal.
Yes, I really enjoyed your video. Very nicely done.
I just got my first 45 Colt revolver and learned slot about the 45 colt performance.

    As always a fantastic test!

Nice to see how these round perform.. “down range”. With the added fps from the levergun this would definitely be a good self-defense arm in places where ar-15s and aks are frowned upon.

With this ammo now on store shelves (fall 2023) I’ll purchase a few more boxes.

Thanks for all that you do!
